Convention Call for Observers

Canada Employment and Immigration Union

15th National Convention

August 16-20, 2021

INFORMATION FOR OBSERVERS

1. General

The National Convention of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union will be held virtually this year due to the pandemic. It will start at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16 and conclude by no later than 4:00 p.m. on August 20th, 2021.

It is important to note that all times quoted in this document are Eastern Standard Time (EST)

2. Notification Forms

Members wishing to attend the Convention as observers can be sponsored by their Local or by their Region. The attached form (CEIU/C06-20) must be completed and signed by the sponsoring body. This form must be returned to CEIU National Office no later than June 2, 2021.

Members can attend the Convention at their own cost and not be sponsored by their Local or their Region; in such case, the Notification Form must clearly indicate that information.

3. Details for a Virtual Convention

The 2021 CEIU National Convention will be held virtually this year due to the pandemic.

We will be providing you, closer to Convention, the technology requirements, procedures, and recommendations required to ensure a smooth Convention for all participants.

Our service provider, Encore Solutions will be sending each of the participants their login information ahead of the Convention dates so that everyone will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the convention platform prior to the start of the 2021 CEIU Convention.

4. The Convention SWAG kit (optional)

CEIU will be providing the Delegates with a Convention vest and various promotional items (a picture is attached). This is also available to observers who would like to receive the promotional items at a cost of $100.00. If so, a cheque in the amount of $100 must accompany your Notification form (CEIU/C06-20) unless it is being paid for by your sponsor, in which case, it needs to be indicated clearly on the form.

You can indicate the size you require on the Notification form (CEIU/C06-20). To help with your selection, we have attached a sizing chart. The vests will be postal mailed to everyone prior to Convention.

5. Convention Kits

In July, an email will be sent to you indicating that the Convention documents have been posted to our website so that you may save them electronically or print them, as these documents will not be sent in paper copy to observers in keeping with CEIU’s greening initiative. These documents will also be available on the Convention virtual platform during the CEIU Convention.

6. Duty to Accommodate

If you require specific accommodation for your disability, you MUST complete and return the appropriate form (CEIU/C14-20) to the National Office by June 16, 2021.

7.
Leave authorization

If you are taking leave under Article 14 of your Collective Agreement (which states under 14.15 that your employer will bill back the union for the leave taken), you MUST provide us with the dates and hours per day that you require so that we can prepare your leave authorization letter for you to submit to your employer when applying for your leave. The dates and hours per day of leave needed MUST be provided to us by no later than June 16, 2021.

8.
Expenses

Where applicable, all expenses for observers are the responsibility of the sponsoring body. If there is no sponsoring body, then all expenses are the SOLE responsibility of the observer. The CEIU National Office will not be responsible for any expenses or costs for observers.

Please do not hesitate to contact the National Office should you have any questions regarding the National Convention. You can reach our Admin Agent, Brigitte Jean-Duguay, via email at [email protected], or by phone at (613) 236-9634, extension 233 for any questions you may have in regard to this document and its attachments.
