CEIU members recently participated in a “High Tea at Three” event and auction, raising nearly $4,000 in support of two transition houses in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
The Nova Scotia Legislature adopted Bill 482 on September 12, 2024, declaring domestic violence an epidemic in the province.
Transition houses provide transitional services to women and their children who are experiencing violence and abuse.
High tea for a cause
The event was organized by the Public Service Alliance of Canada-Atlantic’s Cape Breton Regional Women’s Committee.
Cape Breton Regional Women’s Committee members made fascinators (decorative headpieces) that were sold and worn at the event, and local organizations and businesses supported the cause by donating items for the auction.
CEIU member Jodi MacPherson played an active role in organizing the event, and CEIU National Executive Vice-President Helen King was in attendance along with other members.
PSAC Atlantic Regional Executive Vice-President Chris Delibiratorie attended as well.
Organizers would like to thank the many volunteers who helped in the kitchen and at the tables.
The PSAC Cape Breton Women’s Committee is open to all women who are PSAC members and composed of workers from every PSAC Component along with PSAC Directly Chartered Locals.
