Be aware of fraudulent emails

We have been made aware of people receiving emails from fraudulent accounts pretending to be members of your national CEIU leadership.

Hacker’s methods are becoming more and more sophisticated and CEIU is actively working on improving its email filtering, but the best defense remains awareness.

Here are some tips on how to handle fraudulent emails:

1. Be critical

Do not click on any links, do not open attachments, and do not reply to the email unless you are 100 per cent confident it is a legitimate email.

2. Look for clues

- Grammatical errors are common in fraudulent emails.

- Hover your mouse on top of the sender’s email to confirm the sender’s email address.

- Hover your mouse on top of links within the email. If the domain name the link is bringing you to is different from the sender’s domain name, it can’t be trusted.

3. Check with senders
If you didn’t expect an email from the sender, don’t reply to the sender. Check with them first. If proven fraudulent, you should immediately delete the email to prevent accidentally opening it later.

Please remain vigilant when opening emails.
