Call for Nominations for for Alternate National Vice-President(s) (A/NVPs)

Now that the elections of the National Vice-Presidents (NVPs) are completed, CEIU is hereby calling for nominations for the positions of Alternate National Vice-Presidents. All CEIU members in good standing are eligible to vote for their respective Alternate NVP(s).


Below is a list of the nineteen (19) Alternate National Vice-Presidents positions:

 

1) Twelve (12) Alternate National Vice-President (A/NVP) representing the following eight (8) regions:
➢ 1 Alternate NVP for Newfoundland-Labrador/Nova Scotia
➢ 1 Alternate NVP for New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island
➢ 2 Alternate NVPs for Quebec
➢ 2 Alternate NVPs for Ontario
➢ 3 Alternate NVPs for the National Capital Region (NCR)
➢ 1 Alternate NVP for Manitoba/Saskatchewan
➢ 1 Alternate NVP for Alberta/Northwest Territories/Nunavut
➢ 1 Alternate NVP for British Columbia/Yukon

2) Four (4) Alternate National Vice-Presidents for Women’s Issues representing the regions as follows:
➢ 2 Alternate NVPs for Eastern Canada (which comprises Newfoundland-Labrador/Nova Scotia, New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island, Québec, and the National Capital Region (NCR))
➢ 2 Alternate NVPs for Western Canada (which comprises Ontario, Manitoba/Saskatchewan, Alberta/Northwest Territories/Nunavut, and British Columbia/Yukon)


3) One (1) Alternate National Vice-President for Immigration and Refugees Board (IRB)


4) One (1) Alternate National Vice-President for Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Canada (IRCC)


5) One (1) Alternate National Vice-President for Human Rights (HR)


ELIGIBILITIES of a NOMINEE, a NOMINATOR, and a SECONDER

 

ALTERNATE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (A/NVP) REPRESENTING THE REGIONS (see # 1 above):

 

In accordance with CEIU By-Law 12, sub-section 12.3.2, any member in good standing of the respective region may nominate or second another member in good standing of the respective region for the position(s) of Alternate National Vice-President for that respective region.

ALTERNATE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (A/NVP) WOMEN’S ISSUES (see # 2 above):

 

In accordance with CEIU By-Law 12, sub-section 12.3.3, all members in good standing in each of the areas defined (see #2 above) and who identify as a woman may nominate and second another member in good standing, who identify as a woman, for the positions of Alternate National Vice-Presidents for Women’s Issues for Eastern Canada or for Western Canada.

 

ALTERNATE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (A/NVP) FOR IRB (see # 3 above):

 

In accordance with CEIU By-Law 12, sub-section 12.3.4, any member in good standing from the Immigration Refugee Board (IRB) is entitled to nominate or second another IRB member in good standing for the position of Alternate National Vice-President for IRB.

 

ALTERNATE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (A/NVP) for IRCC (see # 4 above):

 

In accordance with CEIU By-Law 12, sub-section 12.3.5, any member in good standing from IRCC is entitled to nominate or second another IRCC member in good standing for the position of Alternate National Vice-President for IRCC.

ALTERNATE NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT (A/NVP) for HUMAN RIGHTS (HR) (see # 5 above):

 

In accordance with CEIU By-Law 12, sub-section 12.3.6, any member in good standing who has self-identified with CEIU is entitled to nominate or second another member in good standing who also has self-identified with CEIU for the position of Alternate National Vice-President for HR. If you have not yet self-identified with CEIU, a self-identification form, which forms part of this Call for Nominations, can be completed, and sent to the CEIU National Office. The self-identification form is also available on the CEIU website.

 

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that, as the nominee, nominator, and/or seconder, you are eligible to sign the nomination form as per the eligibilities listed above.

DEADLINE DATE to receive NOMINATIONS

 

Completed nomination forms for all Alternate NVP positions, as listed above, must be received at the CEIU National Office in Ottawa by no later than 9 p.m. (EST) on Friday, June 23rd, 2023, to be considered valid.

WHEN & HOW CAN I VOTE?

 

To allow all members in good standing a chance to vote in the different Alternate NVP elections being held, where applicable, a third party, Simply Voting, will be conducting all the necessary elections on behalf of CEIU.

 

Three (3) different method of voting will be provided by Simply Voting: electronically, by telephone and by paper ballot.

 

Around one (1) week prior to the start of the voting process, and where applicable, members in good standing will receive a letter from Simply Voting allowing the member to decide the way they want to cast their vote(s) – either by email, by phone or by mailing the completed paper ballot back to Simply Voting.

 

The election period will be for a period of nine (9) days, starting at 9 a.m. (EST) on July 31st, 2023, and ending at 9 p.m. (EST) on August 8th, 2023. Any member in good standing will be eligible to vote for their respective Alternate NVP(s) – as per the section Eligibilities above. If you are mailing in your ballot, it must be received at Simply Voting no later than August 8th, 2023. No paper ballot will be accepted after 9 p.m. (EST) on August 8th, 2023.

 

All Alternate National Vice-Presidents will be declared elected prior to the National Convention, however, the results of these elections will be made official at the 2023 CEIU National Convention, after which the new term of office will begin.

 

Regulation 18 is to be used for all elections. A copy of Regulation 18 is available on the CEIU website at www.ceiu-seic.ca.
