CEIU celebrates Pride Month

June marks Pride Month, and CEIU proudly recommits itself to defending the dignity, safety and full participation of all 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

With locals in more than 165 communities from coast to coast to coast, CEIU’s strength flows from the diversity of our membership. Guided by our core values of respect, inclusiveness, fairness and equity, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with 2SLGBTQIA+ members—and with all allies in the broader labour movement—to push back against the rising tide of hate,  fight for gender-affirming care, and demand safer, more inclusive workplaces.

But solidarity is an action, not a slogan. This month we call on every member to take actions that will make a difference. You can show your solidarity by:

  • speaking up when you witness anti-2SLGBTQIA+ discrimination or harassment

  • insist on clear anti-harassment language at joint consultation tables

  • use correct names and pronouns in every interaction and encourage others to do the same

We will continue pressing the employer and Parliament for policies that protect 2SLGBTQIA+public-service workers, including robust remote work options, accessible mental health supports and workplaces free from discrimination.

Pride began as a protest; it endures as a promise. Together, we will keep that promise—advancing equality, celebrating love in all its forms, and ensuring public services reflect the vibrant, diverse Canada we serve.
