CEIU Statement of support for the Black Class Action Lawsuit

The Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU) joins the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) in supporting the legal action taken on behalf of past and present federal public service workers who identify as Black, Caribbean or of African descent.

We stand in solidarity with these Black workers and all Black public sector workers.

CEIU members continue to experience the pain of Black employee exclusion; the systemic practice of limiting skilled Black workers from career advancement opportunities and being disproportionally underrepresented in management and high-ranking positions in the federal public service. Our unions support of this class action strongly aligns with our union’s ongoing fight against anti-Black racism.

CEIU joins the voices who call on the federal government to identify and tear down systemic barriers in its human resources practices. At our National Executive meeting on February 22, 2021 , the members of the NE voted to support the Black Class Action law suit in the amount of $10,000.

We encourage all members that identify as Black to sign up for the legal action. https://www.blackclassaction.ca/
