Holiday greetings from your CEIU National President and National Executive Vice-President

As we approach the holiday season, we want to extend warm wishes to every CEIU member, along with your friends and family.

This past year has been marked by hard work, resilience, and dedication. Together, we have faced challenges head-on and embraced opportunities to make meaningful progress.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to strengthening CEIU and advancing labour in our workplaces and communities. Whether you have followed our updates, signed petitions, participated in political actions, served on your local executive, or stepped forward as a union leader, your involvement makes a difference.

As we look ahead to 2025, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a new year filled with health, happiness, and hope. Thank you for being an integral part of our collective journey.

Recent highlights:

Mobilizing against return to office

With the announcement of return to office moving to three days per week, we launched a “Remote Works” campaign and deployed campaign materials across the country.

Over 120 members joined for a rally this past October in Montreal to let the employer that “Remote Works” and that we’re ready to negotiate for a fair collective agreement that includes better wages, language on telework, and more.

Inaugural conferences

We hosted our inaugural Health & Safety Conference and Young Workers’ Conference in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, earlier this December. We are pleased to say both were a success and we will be building on this great work.

We also hosted a national Bargaining Conference in November, with delegates from across the country selecting their top 25 demands. We will be taking these demands to the PSAC Bargaining Conference this February and advocating for them within the PA Group bargaining team.

Modernization and communication

We are onboarding a new Sharepoint and leave system, along with a new online claims process for members and staff. We’ll also be launching a new national website in 2025.

Our national monthly e-newsletter is sent to over 25,000 contacts and we are very pleased with our engagement levels. We’re also strengthening our communications with your union locals by sending regular emails with important updates.

Our audience is growing so be sure to follow us and tag us in your mobilization efforts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

National staffing and executive

We ratified the CEIU-COPE collective agreement for CEIU staff and are proud to be a leader in telework, with language enshrined in the collective agreement to encourage work-life balance. We are also hiring for a new Human Resources position and a Conference Administrator, building our capacity to better serve our members.

Our National Executive is committed to strengthening connections across regions through active collaboration in Labour-Management Consultations with a focus on connecting common priorities across regions and portfolios.

Representation and caseloads

We are committed to improving representation caseloads to support the mental health and well-being of both our members and CEIU staff. To achieve this, we are piloting innovative approaches such as local tiering and specialized duty to accommodate teams.

Additionally, we are proud to announce that, after over six years of advocacy by CEIU staff for advanced representation training through PSAC, National Union Representatives (NURs) from across the country successfully participated in this training last month.

Union strong

Over the past few months, we’ve achieved remarkable progress together, and we are excited about all that we will accomplish in 2025.

The strength of our union is our membership. We encourage you to reach out to your local to explore how you can get involved and help shape our collective future.

We look forward to building on our progress in the new year, knowing that our strength comes from working together.

In solidarity,

Rubina Boucher
National President

Helen King
National Executive Vice-President
