Stand up against anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate

On International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), observed on May 17, 2025, CEIU stands in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities worldwide.

In recent years, there has been an exponential rise in anti-2SLGBTQI hate across Canada and the world. By far the most targeted group has been trans people, whose very existence is under attack through the dismantling of human rights protections and the denial of gender-affirming healthcare.

The theme for 2025, “The power of communities”, highlights the strength and resilience that emerge from our collective solidarity. We celebrate the varied and intersecting backgrounds, identities, and experiences that make 2SLGBTQIA+ communities vibrant and strong. We recognize and honour the contributions of human rights defenders, 2SLGBTQIA+ allies, and the millions of people who tirelessly support and respect human rights and equity for all.

Together, we continue to fight against discrimination and violence against 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Let us harness the power of our communities at this critical time when human rights are under attack, to create a world where everyone can live freely and authentically.

Take action

Your participation and support are crucial in ensuring that the rights we have so tirelessly fought for do not get taken away from us ever again.

In solidarity,

2SLGBTQIA+ Caucus of the CEIU Human Rights and Race Relations Committee
